UPDATE!!!!

I got an email Friday announcing I was chosen as part of the SPI Marathon Ambassador Program. I added a new section to the blog about that, appropriately called SPI Marathon Ambassador.

Right now, the short version is you can get $25 off the marathon and half-marathon registration fee with the code HERNANDEZ25 (all caps). Check back for more later.

I just got an email about the SPI Marathon ambassador program. Here are some of the perks listed:
  • Free entry
  • Free Swag
  • Discounts for friends/family/strangers
  • Chance to earn free lodging, trips, etc.

The first one is enough to get my attention. I'm a fan of the run, but the only way I got to participate earlier was because I worked for one of the sponsors.

Any run right now is out of my budget. I will have to play the role of supportive spectator. The good news is I'll get to work on my awesome sign-making skills.

Here's the link to the form to become an SPI Marathon ambassador.

Deep Thoughts

Running thoughts. Why?
I found this screenshot from earlier this year. My cousin sent me an article she had found. And that was my immediate response.

I couldn't find the link to this particular article, but here's one along the same lines:

Running makes brain bigger. It's true.

Oh, St. Patrick, you're keeping runners busy.
  • St. Patrick's Day 5K Run/Walk in Pharr
  • The Leprechaun RGV 5K & Kids 1 Mile
  • Amigos Del Valle March for Meals in Weslaco

How to choose?

I was watching an episode of "Matlock" (because I'm old), where Matlock is questioning a possible suspect. The man was an athlete, working out. Matlock is looking at the pictures around the room and said, "All these photos... are of you."

"Yes," the man replies nonchalantly.

I don't want to be that self-absorbed, but I don't know how to strike a balance. At most runs, I don't know anyone, so I'm taking and posting photos of crowds and strangers. But it seems sad not to have anyone to take a photo with.

At larger races, professional photographers get to capture all the silly faces I make, as a huff and puff across the course. Sometimes, I love a photo they take of me, but... what do I do with it?

By the time I see the professional photo, I've already bombarded social media friends and followers with the pictures I took at the event. I don't want to bother them with more.

Even on this blog, I'm afraid of posting too many photos. *sigh* I guess I just have to stop taking such freakin' awesome pictures.

Kidding. Do you keep photos of you at runs in your house or work? Or do you just stick with the traditional bronze statue?

Former high school water girl (really) finally running.

I started this blog as part of my participation with LLS Team In Training. I moved it to this site to continue my (still slow) running adventures in South Texas.
