Belated congratulations to two of my Team in Training teammates! Noemi and Myrta ran the half-marathon at the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. They each raised more than $3,000 for LLS. Check out their necklaces. Instead of medals at the end of the race, they got Tiffany's necklaces!

Today, for the first time in probably more than two years, my legs were exposed to sunlight. I'm hoping the reflection didn't frighten anyone when I went for my run tonight. I've been hiding them behind long pants and knee-high compression socks. I'm not sure how they keep getting cuts and bruises that take forever to heal, but they do. I've mentioned it to doctors. They didn't seem concerned. But after all their hard work, I figured my legs deserved a little sunlight. I covered five miles during Saturday's training, which was our superhero run. I didn't feel fit enough to wear my Superman outfit, despite having the cape. So I made up a hero. I was dressed as The Turtle. Below is a photo of The Turtle and my teammates. Here's a look at the leaderboard from that day. We start Saturday trainings with a mission moment and a check on the funds raised. I confess I like seeing my name on the board.
Help me keep my lead. Please make a donation if you haven't already. Thank you. Thank you so much. I've been trying to figure out what to write. I had imagined that when I reached my goal of $1,500, I would do a dance or jump for joy. But honestly, I've been so tired I haven't had a chance to even write. If you check the comments below, note the "In lieu of a cease and desist letter, I'm making a donation..." With the few people I'm closer to, I can be that persistent. That kind of persistence takes energy. I did get to stop by the San Juan basilica this weekend and light a candle. (It's rude not to thank everyone who's helping me do this.) Here's the short version of what I want to say. We're not done. I picked the absolute lowest goal possible, because I was afraid I wouldn't make it. Thank you for proving me wrong. But me reaching my initial goal doesn't mean blood cancer is cured. The next $5 could go toward a cancer patient's copay. It could help fund a research project. So I raised my personal goal to another $100. And I reached that goal. And now I'm going to raise it another $150. So, for those of you who haven't donated, be warned. I'm resting up. You'll hear from me soon. |
