Edinburg All-America City 10K 2016

I participated in the 34th All-America City 10K in Edinburg. I was a whole minute faster than last year.

If I keep that up, in 25 years, I’ll be able to finish it at a respective pace.

Three quick notes about the run:

  1. When race organizers talk about attracting elite runners, they’re not kidding. If a route backtracks, I get to see the people at the head of the pack returning to the start/finish line.

Usually, I see two or three people at an amazing pace. Then there’s about half a mile of space between them and the rest of the crowd.

That didn’t happen. Instead, I saw a steady stream of people. I saw so many people running at such an enviable pace that I started to think maybe they just turned at the wrong spot.

  2. In addition to results, race organizers also post video of participants crossing the finish line. *Sigh* And once again, it totally looks like I’m walking. I’m considering getting a shirt with the words “My sports bra confirms I’m running.”

  3. Whenever I’m in the area, I’m usually in such a rush and paranoid about finding parking that I never notice the buildings. I got to slow down and enjoy the view. It was a beautiful day.

I caught myself thinking, “Shouldn’t I be near the courthouse?” That’s when I noticed I was right next to it. It looked different from that angle.

My only continuing question is: Why does the first mile or two of race routes always take us passed breakfast restaurants?

Side Note: If anybody in Edinburg sees a green FitBit, that may be mine.
